Responsibilities

Under the Direction of the Chief Nursing Officer has administrative and operational responsibility for staffing, administrative supervisors, bed control, care link, transport, transfer admissions center, telesitters program, capacity coordinators, order coordinators and any other assigned departments. Responsibilities include but are not limited to management of cost and finance, human resources, operations, quality of care and clinical outcomes, patient, physician and staff satisfaction, change management. Serves as part of the management team and Shared Governance Model focused on promoting the mission, vision and values, of PHC and Nursing Professional Practice, embracing a person-centered philosophy while promoting patient- family centered services across the continuum and enhancing value-driven outcomes.

 

What you will do

  • Develops standards of performance, policies and procedures for designated areas of responsibility.
  • Organizes the areas of responsibility in accordance with administrative guidelines in order to provide specified nursing and patient care services to meet organizational, regulatory privacy and Medical Staff guidelines.
  • Manages, implements and effects change.
  • Maintains safe work environment and culture, promotes excellence in customer care.
  • Oversees planning, growth and strategic initiatives for assigned departments.
  • Functions in an advisory capacity to the Chief Nursing Officer in evaluating proposed changes as they relate to these departments.
  • Directs implementation and ensures compliance with standards of nursing and professional practice that promotes optimum health care delivery along the lifecycle continuum.
  • Collects and analyzes data, drives performance improvement with metrics associated with the responsibilities and functions in the department.
  • Manages bed control, transfer admission center, transport, order coordinators and capacity coordinators to ensure optimal patient throughput. Ensures nursing supervisors are accountable for optimizing patient throughput during off shifts and on weekends.
  • Has hospital wide visibility of patient status and discharge plans to maximize throughput.
  • Ensures patients are assigned beds based on diagnosis and assigned to the appropriate nursing units to optimize care and reduce lateral transfers. Ensures unit transfers are minimized as appropriate but are facilitated in a timely manner.
  • Collaboratively works with physicians regarding level of care (ICU, med/surg, etc.) and discharges.
  • Understands patient discharge status and initiates nursing unit prioritization of discharges based off bed needs for incoming patients.
  • Works with case management, social work and inpatient units to prioritize patient discharges based off Geometric Mean Length of Stay (GMLOS) and similar indicators.
  • Ensures the nursing units and capacity coordinators work collaboratively to facilitate patient placement.
  • Balances the goal to discharge patients with the goal to minimize patient readmissions.
  • Evaluates need for diversion based on status of organization and regional resources. Collaborates with administrators as needed.

Qualifications

Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in nursing, healthcare administration, or closely related field Required
  • Master’s degree in Nursing, Health Care Administration, or related field Preferred
Work Experience
  • 7 years of nursing experience and minimum of three years of progressive management experience Required
Licenses and Certifications
  • RN - Registered Nurse - Georgia State Licensure and/or NLC/eNCL Multistate Licensure Current Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Georgia Upon Hire Required
